Building Strength Inside and Out with Exercise Physiologist Colton Haight

Episode Summary

Ava is joined by Exercise Physiologist Colton Haight for a conversation on the importance of resistance training to strengthen your body inside and out to help you live your best life.

Colton Haight, the General Manager and Senior Exercise Physiologist at Discover Strength Maple Grove, brings over seven years of fitness industry expertise to the table. He earned his Bachelor's in Sport and Recreation Management from the University of Minnesota-Crookston and his Master's in Kinesiology from the University of North Dakota. As Ava's personal trainer for five years, Colton has earned a unique distinction: he's the only person who can motivate her to do squats before 9 a.m.—or at any time, for that matter.

Ava and Colton discuss the importance of strength training and its many benefits as a foundational building block to living your best life. From building muscles to enhanced cognitive function, improving body composition to decreasing the risk of disease, research shows that strength training improves well being in more ways than one. And while building muscle mass is a popular goal for strength training, gains don’t have to translate to “bulk”. They debunk several myths around strength training, including the classic fear that lifting weights will make a person look bulky…Spoiler alert: muscle mass is largely determined by genetics.

Whether you're a fitness fanatic or just starting your strength training journey, this episode offers valuable insights to help you build strength both inside and out on your journey to being more you.
